About

I’m retired and living in Lake Oswego, Oregon. I used to be an avid cyclist, but after my third serious accident (last summer), I let outdoor cycling go. Now I row on the Willamette River. Love it. During the winter, our club (Lake Oswego Community Rowing) works out on erg (rowing) machines.

Why do I make photographs? This quote pretty much says it: “...But there was so much to see in the world that I felt one couldn’t afford to be slack about it.” — From The Jewel in the Crown, by Paul Scott

In some hard-to-define way, I have a powerful need to record what I see, what I read, and then to share it.

Every day I make photographs because each day I send an email to several hundred readers, called Daily Sightings. The daily email includes pictures and a poem I have gathered from various sources. I’ve been doing it for 21 years.

Creating Daily Sightings connects me to my community of readers. That connection buoys me up and carries me forward. I like to think that every day I am called to the things of this world.

If you’d like to receive Daily Sightings, please email me at martinstabler@gmail.com, and please include where you live. Thanks.

Oh, and I’m lucky enough to be married, have a son and a daughter, and three grandchildren. And I still have my own teeth and some of my hair.
